An Ascalon event
I was just thinking, we've had a few events now that focus on one continent or region more than others, so why not have one that focuses on Ascalon?
Perhaps some sort of weekend event remembering the day of the Searing, and involving quests and such to fight the Charr and collect some sort of new drop to trade in for a Charr Mask or something similiar at end of the event, maybe even opening the catacombs again just for the event?
Maybe it could bring back King Adelbern and the ghost of Althea for some of the quests and bring about the first signs of recovery for Ascalon after the Searing, or maybe the Gods get involved somehow for this event in honor of all the heroes who came from Ascalon and saved the world.

I like the idea.
Need more detail on what to do during event.
What type of quests?
What will you find in the catacombs?
How hard will it be? Ascalon has new players and veteran players.
Ultimately, how do you involve new players/old players besides just another mask/quest?

Well I think it'd be great if the community could help flesh this idea out. In my head I was thinking that Ascalon would get it's first signs of recovery, including the opening of the catacombs, and decide to hold a holiday to remember the day they truly began recovering from the Searing.
I was thinking the quests would be comparable to the event quests around Shing Jea Island, where newer players could still complete them, and the quests would also reward x amount of collector item for a hat or whatever.
Perhaps set up something like how the darkness took over the tombs, ahead of time a bit (with release of chapter 4 maybe?) where Ascalon strikes back against the Charr somehow in some decisive battle that really helps them start recovering their lands and rebuilding. The quests could bring back old familiar characters from Ascalon, perhaps we could even see Rurik's ghost?
For types of quests, they'd mostly deal with fighting off the Charr I suppose, maybe travelling all around Ascalon to deliver the good news of recovery?
The Catacombs could be involved with some quests, and maybe contain some higher level monsters than before, like say levels 5-10 and a few bosses, maybe even introduce low/mid level uniques to Tyria starting with this event, much like how Elona and Cantha both have these.
for the end of the event, perhaps the King would show up, and you could show your support for Ascalon by doing some sort of little task, like bringing certain items to the event or something, to get a little extra gift, much like the Canthan New Year event.

A PRE-SEARING event would not involve the searing at all.
An idea we just had in guild chat would involve a meeting between the Charr Lord/leader and the King, to have a peace talk of sorts.
Due to this extraordinary advancement in the battle with the Charr's, Charr Masks may be a part of the event.
Some quests could involve working WITH the Charr to cleanse the other areas.
This type of event could lead to the Charr becoming a playable race, as hinted for chapter 2 in 'The Inquisitor.'
In the end, there would be no agreement and lead to a semi-large battle between the Charr and the Humans, taking place INSIDE of Ascalon City. [quest, like Sunspears in Tyria/Cantha].

Only if all Charr in the game also wore human masks for the duration of the event.
I don't know if they should do something like this. I mean, new players just witnessing the searing would get to Ascalon and say "What? It's all a bit quick to be starting repairs. I know it's two years later and all, but the war is still going on. What is going on?"
But I do agree there should be more events. Events are fun. So I'm sorta on the middle ground with this one... my logical side says no, but my evil little indulgent side says "HELL YES!!!"

They could change the last day dawns quest to take place outside of rin, Ascalon's capitol. Although it would make it exclusive to ppl who have finished proph, they could have 2 separate events. The one in ascalon city would be fighting the charr, while the ppl in Rin are negotiating with char leaders
